But first, I have news. Next season there will be big changes around here, because "here" will no longer be New York. I am (temporarily, but for the whole of next season) moving. Sad, I know, my Met and I had a tearful parting after Lulu the other night. But do not fear blog death! As an international woman of mystery I will not yet disclose my destination, but it’s a major musical capital and has a LOT of opera. More than New York, in fact. By my estimation, however, it suffers from a tragic dearth of classical music bloggers. Particularly twenty-something semi-hipster female English-language opera bloggers. This lacuna will be remedied! Right here! Starting in September!
But in the more immediate future, mah job is taking me on a brief trip to Los Angeles. I am skeptical about this, for I believe LA to not be my kind of place (this impression is based largely on David Lynch movies and Lost). Yet, I heard that there might be some opera going on there, so in between traffic jams I thought I might stop by and see what’s up.
Figure What's Up
Also on the horizon: Le grand macabre at the New York Philharmonic next week, in August Der ferne Klang at the Bard Music Festival, and various other things I think will be interesting. I hope you also find them interesting!
My farewell to the Met, one of my favorite arias. "Parto, ma tu ben mio," from Mozart's La Clemenza di Tito, sung by Susan Graham, Paris, 2005:

Looking forward to reviews from your new home in the fall as well as the late spring/summer events. I've enjoyed reading your late season reviews. Best of luck.
LA does have a way of growing on you though and defying your expectations. I hope you like the Ring cycle. I'm a big fan of it, as you may know.
